Introductory Blog

Hello all!

My name is Madison Dzikowicz. I'm a second-year Communications major. I was born in Denver, Colorado and have lived here all my life. Last semester I studied in Beijing, China. It was one of the most rewarding experiences. I recommend traveling to China for awesome history and weird street food. Some of my personal hobbies include hiking, which is easy to do with the Rockies in my backyard, and creating, like writing, art, sewing, etc. I love traveling and I think learning about geography will help me better understand the physical world and increase my wonder for it.

The location I want to choose for this semester is Salar de Uyuni in southwest Bolivia. I first learned about it when browsing a traveling blog/magazine called Matador Network. I then conducted my own research on it and fell in love. Salar de Uyuni is the world's largest salt flat, which during the rainy season becomes a gigantic mirror of the sky (BBC, 2016). To increase my awe I would love to explore the physical geography of Salar de Uyuni, that's why I am choosing it for this class. I also hope to visit it in person soon enough, so having a better understanding of how it was made, how it will change, and so on will just add to the experience. I'm looking forward to the rest of the semester!
